Fresh Tracks

Getting the first chair when the ski area opens will guarantee you fresh tracks on a new snow day, but for a “Top 5 Adventure” we’re talking about getting first chair and knowing the best runs to take on the way down. What we’re talking about here is the Outback at Mt. Hood Skibowl! Even the Govy locals know that getting fresh tracks through the Outback with a foot or more of fluffy white powder may only happen a few times each year, which is why it has earned a spot in the “Top 5 Adventures.”

From the top of the Upper Bowl Chair Lift, hike or ski out towards Tom Dick Peak. With clear skies you can see five volcanoes from here. If you have clear skies and fresh powder, you’re about to have the time of your life! Pick your run based on your experience level, but there is only black diamond or double black diamond runs down from here so be ready to shred. If you’re at the top of your game, “The Chutes” is the last run down from the peak. Straight down between jagged rock ledges you’ll have to commit to make it through. This “Top 5 Adventure” is for expert skiers and snowboarders only. Getting a chance at this adventure is all about timing so keep your eye on the weather and plan accordingly!
